Share with me the name of a movie that is more recognizable that The Eel... you won't find one. If the watcher does not like Drama type of movies, he will watch the whole movie and have great fun. One word, cool!. I watched this movie three times and I liked it the same every single one even more. Shôhei Imamura made this movie at a great steady pace along with amazing writing. Skills of actors are just impressive, especially Kôji Yakusho. Not many "excellent" movies that have ever been released. From the start to the end I was impressed, and if you like well done movies I'm sure you'll feel same. The Eel is a living masterpiece. This movie is an art, at it's very best form.

Freed after spending eight years in prison for killing his adulterous wife in a jealous rage, Takuro Yamashita opens a barber shop, meets new people, talking almost to no one except an eel he befriended while in prison.
